Green Ridge North Community subdivision was built in 1966. It was built on a piece of land that was nothing but grasslands. At the moment of its development, there were local schools in existence, Aldine High School and Stovall Junior High. When the community was built the main entrance was on Hardwicke Road. Around the corner from the entrance, there were five model homes on Chipman on display. The first homes to be built were on Wellman and Kirkfield. Green Ridge North Community's selling point was its pool center’s 164,000-gallon swimming pool. The pool is still in great condition after a recent resurface plastering endeavor. The pool center is now called the Aquatic Center.
Green Ridge North Community originally was not part of the city of Houston city’s limits. It was not until 1976 that it was annexed into the city. The community is home to 1,189 homes. The subdivision is within reach of the Woodlands, Bush Intercontinental Airport, and not that far from downtown Houston. The growing community has seen many changes. Recently, Greenspoint Management Redevelopment Authority has installed a $6 million-plus improvement streetscape into the surrounding community. The Green Ridge North Community board of trustees has also started making the necessary improvements to the original Hardwicke entrance. Thus, much more has to be done.
Today, Green Ridge North Community is home to many who join in the endeavor of voting and passing a master plan for our community. This master plan will serve as a guideline. Within this master plan the entrances will be relandscaped into their glory days, the Aquatic Center will see some improvements as well from landscaping, spray grounds, pavilions, new restrooms, volleyball and basketball courts, a new recreational center, a new West Road Park, and a banner district (Main Square and Grand Avenue). Every community has a story. And ours is still to be told.
Our mission is to make our neighborhood a safe, peaceful, and enjoyable place to live, a neighborhood of friends working together for the benefit of all residents.
